High Sheriff Congratulations

The Bristol Scientific Club congratulates member Dr John Manley, BSc (Bristol), PhD (Bristol) on being declared High Sheriff of the County and City of Bristol on Thursday, 19th March 2020.

Dr Manley comments that “The office of High Sheriff is the oldest secular office in the country dating back to Saxon times – 959 AD under King Edgar is often quoted. It will be a year unlike any recent one. Over the centuries the office has responded in times of national crises and challenges. It always adapts to support the Crown, the Judiciary and the different branches of law and order; it will again.”

Our very best wishes to him.
